RENO SUNRISE RECEIVES THE
NORTHERN NEVADA INTERNATIONAL CENTER
INTERNATIONAL VISIONARY AWARD

At the 7th Annual Global Gala, April 1, 2006, the Rotary Club of Reno Sunrise was awarded the International Visionary Award by the Northern Nevada International Center.  President Virginia accepted the award on behalf of the member of Reno Sunrise.

The Reno Sunrise Rotary Club is very active in the International community helping both youths and adults though ongoing and one-time international service projects.  The club actively promotes youth exchange programs as well as the Ambassadorial Scholarship and recently funded Rotaract, an International service club for young professionals in the Reno/sparks area.  Some of the International service projects include a project in Poland where equipment for a regional hospital as well as an ultrasound machine were funded.  Additional projects in Ghana in literacy and in Russia with water exemplify the far reach of this incredible local organization.  Virginia Haliwell, the Reno Sunrise Rotary's president will accept the award on behalf of the club.

The Northern Nevada International Center (NNIC) fosters the role of citizen diplomacy in building bridges of international awareness and understanding, through programs of international exchange and community and educational outreach, in order to promote the equality of all peoples.

The International Center continues the work of the International Visitors Council as a nonprofit organization linking internationally oriented individuals, business interests, civic groups and federal, state and local government officials of Northern Nevada with foreign visitors. The International Center receives guidance from the National Council for International Visitors (NCIV) in Washington, DC and other State Department sponsored organizations and federal agencies.

The purpose of the International Center is to meet the professional and social needs of international visitors who are sponsored by government agencies, foundations and private national organizations; to educate the community in Northern Nevada about their role in an increasingly global community and economy; and to facilitate exchanges between local residents and international visitors.
