The Rotary Club of Reno Sunrise participates in both local and international service projects that serve both adults and youth.  Some of the projects are ongoing projects while others are one time projects.

ON GOING SERVICE PROJECTS

ONE TIME SERVICE PROJECTS

Virginia Palmer Elementary School We provide both financial support and hands on support for Virginia Palmer Elementary School in the Sun Valley community in north Reno.

Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) - We participate in Rotary's international high school exchange program.

Ambassadorial Scholars - An international scholarship program for college and university students to study for one year in a foreign country.

Group Study Exchange - This Rotary Foundation program help foster international understanding and goodwill by exposing young professionals and business people to their counter parts in other countries.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) - This is a one week summer camp that helps to develop high school leaders.

PolioPlus - Rotary International is leading the effort to eradicate polio from the world.

Matching Grants - A Rotary Foundation program in which two or more Rotary clubs in two or more countries partner to support one Rotary sponsored program/project.  Reno Sunrise has partnered in several matching grant with its Twin Rotary Club in Poland.

World Community Service - A World Community Service project is born when Rotary clubs from two or more countries join together to accomplish a community service project. The WCS program links Rotary clubs needing extra help with clubs in other countries that are willing to provide funds, materials, and technical and professional assistance.

Ghana Projects - Four Sunrise Rotarians have traveled to Ghana to further International Service.
   ● October 2000 - Jon Greene & Martha Greene participated in PolioPlus National Immunization Days
   ● November 2002 - Jon Greene spent four weeks in Ho, Ghana on a clean water project
   ● July 2004 - Sue Collins and  Jon Greene spent 4 weeks in Ghana on a literacy project.  At the same time Scott Tyler spent 3 weeks in Ghana on a clean water project.

Centennial Park - In 2003 - 04, along with other local Rotary clubs, we participated in the funding and building of a family oriented park in a low-income housing program. The Centennial Park Project was our Rotary Centennial Year project.

Veteran's Guest House - In November of 2004 The Reno Veteran's Guest House leveled its building and built a new facility.  With the Reno Sunrise taking the lead, the area Rotary Clubs raised over $70,000, and provided move-in labor.

Polish EMS Team - In May 2004 Reno Sunrise hosted five Polish emergency medical personnel. They spent two weeks in Reno visiting emergency medical facilities. 

PolioPlus -  Four Reno Sunrise members have participated in PolioPlus National Immunization Days.  Jon and Martha Greene were in Ghana in October 2000;  In November 2004 Jon participated again in Ghana NID.   Virginia Haliwell and Lyn Zanetti participated in NIDs in India in February 2003.

Rotaplast - Lyn Zanetti was part of a Rotaplast Mission to Santa Cruz, Bolivia in November 2003.

Russian Water Project - In October of 2003 Ron Byrd led a team to Vladivostok, Russia to study their water supply.  A year later a team came from Vladivostok to study water supply systems in the United States.
